Port'Alba, también conocida como «Porta Jacovella» o «Urbica», es un monumento histórico situado en Trevico, en Via Roma.

Construida en 1578 y orientada hacia el este, Port'Alba fue, junto con la Puerta del Ricetto y la Puerta de los Calderai -de las que hoy no queda ni rastro-, una de las tres entradas al pueblo. Fue encargada por la familia Loffredo, propietaria del Estado de Trevico hasta la abolición del feudalismo en 1806.

Port'Alba ha conservado hasta nuestros días su estructura de dos pilares de piedra de lava, que sostienen un arco de medio punto formado por dos bloques de piedra cuadrados y rematado por una pequeña logia que, según se dice, albergaba una estatua de la diosa Trivia, deidad patrona de la ciudad, de la que también tomaría su nombre. En la parte superior de la puerta figuran varios escudos nobiliarios, entre ellos el de la familia Loffredo.

Símbolo de Trevico, hay varias tradiciones ligadas a Port'Alba y a su cruce: desde hace años, las novias, el día de su boda, pasan bajo el monumento con sus vestidos blancos en señal de buena suerte, mientras que, el día del funeral, el ataúd lo cruza por última vez, liberando así el alma de los pecados terrenales.

In the Municipality of Rotondi, the artists Eugenio Giliberti, Umberto Manzo, Perino & Vele, Lucio Perone, and Peppe Perone have shared the space of a street for several years as the site of their studios: Via Varco, now known as "art street". In this context, a series of cultural and urban regeneration initiatives and projects have been funded by the Campania Region over the years. The events involved the region in a series of artistic, musical, and performative activities, opening artists' studios to the public. For these events, the artists of Via Varco were invited to produce permanent works to be placed in the town's public spaces and in other towns in the Caudina Valley. Some of the sculptures and installations are inspired by the environmental characteristics of the region, as in the case of the piece "R-H2O+" by Giliberti, which connects to the path of the river Isclero, while others are related to local history and traditions, as evoked in the luminous sculpture by Lucio Perone "The emigrant's dream" and in the mural "paMaronn" by Perino&Vele. As evidence of the national and international importance of these artists, the piece "A subway è chiù sicura" (A subway is safer) by Perino&Vele can be admired in the "Salvator Rosa" line 1 metro station in Naples.

The brothers Lucio & Peppe Perone are originally from Rotondi. Eugenio Giliberti is half Neapolitan and half from the Caudina Valley area. It was from this second half that he inherited a farm on Via Varco, where he decided to live and create a few years ago. It is a one-of-a-kind farm, as it has been renovated maintaining the shape and spirit of its mid-18th century origin.
Some time after he moved there, Giliberti received a visit from his colleague Umberto Manzo, who fell in love with the area and decided to set up his workshop not far from him. A little further away, meanwhile, is the Perino&Vele studio. The first of the pair, Emiliano Perino, is from San Martino Valle Caudina, while Luca Vele is from Rotondi, and the artistic couple works in what was once his father's body shop. And let's not forget that Rotondi was the birthplace of Luigi Mainolfi VIII, a native of Rotondi and a world famous artist.

It stands in the square in front of the Collegiate Church of San Michele Arcangelo (Saint Michael the Archangel), along the west side of the Orsini Ducal Palace.

It was built using local travertine in 1733 by Nicola and Arcangelo Antinolfi, expert craftsmen from Cava de' Tirreni. In addition to supplying water for the local people, it served to collect water from the hamlet of Sorbo.

It is composed of a large square basin with mouldings that round off its shape. At the corners, there are four lions facing outwards and seated on a stand that divides the basin into four sectors. At their feet is a circular bowl, resting on and protruding over the edges of the basin, which receives the water falling from the lions' mouths. In the middle of the basin rises a squat squared stele with the coat of arms of Solofra - a radiant anthropomorphic sun - engraved on the sides. At the top of the stele are four dolphins facing in the same direction as the lions, with their chests resting on the edges and their heads protruding, and water coming out of their mouths. Their twisted tails rise upwards to form a column that holds a shell-shaped basin that collects the water gushing and rippling out from its centre.

The Municipal Museum Collection in Villamaina is a site of historical and archaeological interest, located in the current town hall on Via Roma.

As early as the 17th century, many local writers referred both to the presence of some areas of particular archaeological interest, including Formulano and Cisterne, and to a whole range of ancient materials, transported to Villamaina from their places of origin. Known for its proximity to the Valle d'Ansanto and for the ancient San Teodoro Baths, which are still in operation, the current area of Villamaina has, over time, preserved countless testaments to the past with roots in the prehistoric era, chronologically tracing its history from the Samnite period through the Roman age, up to remains of more recent origin.

Today, the museum collection consists of 933 finds, divided by geo-referenced criteria. The vestiges that have reached the present day and have benefited from a better state of conservation include a decorative architectural element of a public structure, probably a templum, in the form of a wolf protome and the head of votive statuette. The exhibition also includes a considerable number of stamped bricks, which can for the most part be attributed to Roman-age factories. Particularly significant, finally, is the Roman-era lapidarium with an epigraphic corpus, useful for reconstructing the historical events of Villamaina.

A repertoire of evidence of a very ancient past, the Museum Collection of the Municipality of Villamaina represents a further trace of the presence of settlements in Irpinia dating back thousands of years.

The Episcopal Palace of Nusco is situated in Piazza Vescovado, close to the Co-Cathedral of Sant'Amato (Saint Amatus) in the historic centre of one of Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages.

The work to build what was once the residence of the bishop of Nusco lasted four years, after being commissioned in 1754 by the Bishop Francesco Antonio Bonaventura. In 1760, the building was inaugurated and opened for the first time to young clerics. This magnificent diocesan seminary educated notable religious and civil figures from all over the province of Irpinia, including esteemed men such as the Bishops Giuseppe Teta and Felice Del Sordo, the parliamentarian Felice Saponara and the Ministers Francesco Tedesco and Michelangelo Cianciulli.

The imposing three-storey palace overlooks Piazza Vescovado. It has a Baroque-style façade with a beautiful entrance portal made from pale local stone. The historic and well-stocked Library of Sant' Amato, inside the palace, contains more than 10,000 books. It is run by the Archdiocese of Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi-Conza-Nusco-Bisaccia. The building also contains a Diocesan Museum whose task is to reconstruct the historical, artistic and religious lives of the communities of Nusco, Conza della Campania, Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, Bisaccia, Montemarano, Monteverde and Frigento.

Known as the “cradle of youth from all of Irpinia”, the Episcopal Palace of Nusco is part of the charm and appeal of the historic centre of this upper Irpinian town.

The Turris Martiani Medieval Complex, also known as "Tower of Marzano", is located in Via Michele Fonseca, in Marzano di Nola.

After being incorporated into the fief of Lauro, the history and economic life of the town and consequently of the stronghold were closely intertwined with the surrounding area, which even today is still dominated by Lancellotti Castle, with which the “Tower of Manzano” was almost certainly connected. The complex is thought to date back to 1300. Over the centuries, it has played an important defensive role, forming a barrier to French invasions from 1799 onwards.

The structure is on two levels. On the upper floor is a large terrace flanked by a 15 m tower, with Guelph battlements and square apex. The entire archaeological area is of great cultural interest. Along with the other monuments in the town, it is first-hand evidence of the history of the important fiefdom of the Lauro valley.

As a landmark for the community of Marzano, the tower stands proudly over the town, conserving centuries of history and prestige within it.

The State Archive, located inside the building that once housed the Bourbon Prison of Avellino, is an office of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Tourism (MIBACT).

The State Archive was built following the Law of 12 November 1818. After the Royal Decree 1391 of 22 September 1932 it became the Provincial State Archive together with all the Former Provincial Archives of Southern Italy. Following the enactment of Law 2006 of 22 December 1939 it took on the name of “State Archive Branch Office” and then, with Presidential Decree 1409 of 30 September 1963, the name of “State Archive”.

At provincial level, the Office was responsible for preserving, protecting and allowing access to the archive records under the Code of Cultural Heritage (Legislative Decree 42 of 22 January 2004).
The State Archive offers a number of facilities including a learning centre, a study room, the library, the Public Relations Office and the Diplomatic office.
Users can take photocopies of records and browse library materials. They can also carry out research “by correspondence”, if the subject of their investigation is clear and they can provide accurate references of a limited number of archive records they want to search.

Situated within one of the most impressive buildings in the province, the State Archive of Avellino is also an important point of contact for citizens and public institutions, and gathers information on the quality of customer service.

Biondi Morra Castle is a site of historical interest in Morra De Sanctis, and is currently the home of the Antiquarium Museum.

The Castle is of Lombard origin, dating from the period between the 9th and 10th centuries. The first mention of the hill fort dates back to 1137, when Pietro Diacono told of the Norman military leader Roberto Morra, who left the Castle with his men to hunt down the abbot Rainaldo di Montecassino on his way to Melfi.
During the Anjou-Durazzo dynastic struggles, the Castle was sacked, falling first into the hands of the Giamvilla family and then the Caracciolo family, who converted it into a noble residence early in the 17th century. The Castle was then regained by the Morra family, who carried out the restoration work. In the 17th century, the building became a summer residence. Only a century and a half later would it again be reoccupied by the Morra family.

Much restoration work has been carried out on the Castle due to a series of natural and historical events, including the 1695 earthquake, the sacking by French troops in 1799, the fire of 1911 that destroyed the library and lastly the earthquake of 23 November 1980. In the 1980s the last owners of the Castle, the Camillo brothers and Goffredo Biondi-Morra, donated the building to the Municipality of Morra De Sanctis, which still owns it today.

Considering its original function as a defensive hill fort, the Castle still retains part of the façade, built from local stone, and parts of the two round towers flanking the main entrance, which opens onto the picturesque internal ward. Another notable feature is the milestone in the atrium, probably dating back to the 1st-3rd centuries AD This is a feature that was certainly not part of the castle, and symbolises pagan rituals once celebrated in the countryside around what is now the district of Santa Lucia.

Even today, the Biondi Morra Castle can still be admired in all its beauty, and it is a historic and cultural symbol for the community of Morra.

The Sanctuary of Montevergine is a site of religious interest in Mercogliano.

The religious complex was commissioned by Saint William of Vercelli (1085-1142) who was guided by a strong devotion to the Virgin Mary. The church’s history is closely tied to the picture of Saint Mary holding the Infant Jesus, which can be found in the Old Basilica and to which many intercessions are attributed. Even today, this work of art is still known by the name of “Madonna di Montevergine” or “Mamma Schiavona”. Vested with a solemn grace, Campania’s best-known Marian church stands at 1200 m above sea level in a stunningly beautiful landscape. Visitors can admire the scenery on a short trip on one of Europe’s steepest and fastest cable car routes, which takes worshippers from Mercogliano to the Sanctuary in just 7 minutes.

Today, the Sanctuary of Montevergine is known as one of Italy’s six territorial abbeys, and is a destination for tourists who come to worship Mary each year. An imposing corner staircase leads to the entrance of the complex, which has two churches: the Old Basilica and the more recent Cathedral Basilica. The Old Basilica was extended towards the end of the 12th century, when it became too small to accommodate all the monks and the growing number of pilgrims who came to visit. The last restoration in 1645 gave the building its typically Baroque features, although it was based on the old Gothic-style building, traces of which can still be seen in certain parts of the Church. This is where to find the Sanctuary's real treasure: the miraculous effigy of the Virgin. The new Basilica Cathedral, on which construction started in 1948 and was completed in 1961, has a main nave and two aisles separated by arches on both sides. Built in simple, modern Romanesque style, it was designed to allow many pilgrims to attend the services. Inside the new basilica is a marble throne bearing a nailed cross, which is where the painting of “Mamma Schiavona” was placed between 1960 and 2012. There are many rooms surrounding the two churches, including the three cloisters, the library and the crypt. There are also reception rooms and the MAM (Museo Abbaziale di Montevergine, or Abbey Museum of Montevergine) which was opened in the year 2000 to display the countless testimonies to the people’s devotion, and to Montevergine’s famous “Juta”: the annual climb up to the Sanctuary which takes place on the Candelora festival on 2 February.

A treasure trove for faith, art and history, the Sanctuary of Montevergine is one of the most important and significant devotional sites not only in Irpinia but in all of Campania.

The D'Aquino Castle in Grottaminarda stands in a dominant position in the ancient village of "Fratta".

The original layout of this fortress, with an almost trapezoidal plan, dates back to the early Middle Ages and was extended around the first half of the 12th century with the installation of defensive walls. It belonged first to the D'Aquino family, from 1134 to 1531, when it was taken from them by Charles V, and then to various feudatory families, becoming a municipal property in 1988.

Following the earthquakes of 1694 and 1732, part of the structure of the D'Aquino Castle became a stately home and several rooms were adapted: the first floor of the southern sector was used as a residential area and an area behind it was transformed into a sumptuous roof garden with a terrace, overlooking the suggestive panorama of the valley below, flourishing with vegetation.
Despite the numerous restorations that have been carried out, some of the perimeter walls from the Aragonese period are still visible today, consisting of rows of bricks alternating with river pebbles or limestone, cemented with very hard mortar.

The four towers also remain at the corners of the old defensive bulwark: three cylindrical and one square, all on an escarpment base, in order to give the manor greater defensive advantages. Remains of the Guelph crenellated crowning can still be admired at the top of some wall sections. The lower part of the structure houses the cellars, built inside an underground cave, and some barrel-vaulted passages.

Recently restored, D'Aquino Castle is home to the Antiquarium Museum and the "O. Sanini" Municipal Library and still shows the splendour of the past. A visit to the site is not to be missed, as it is the pride of the entire Ufita Valley and a testimony to the history of Grottaminarda.
