On Friday 13th June, the meeting with Federica Serino, author of the book "L'ombra lunga delle torri gemelle" will be held in the Council Chamber of the municipality of Cesinali.

The "A book a month" review, which has contributed to the dissemination of new texts and the promotion of culture in the Irpinia area throughout the year, comes to a close with the meeting next Friday with Sociologist Federica Serino.

The Book

Federica Serino's literary debut is an analysis of the perception of risk in the modern era: September 11th as a watershed date, we wonder how much catastrophic events have changed behavior in response to potential dangers. Serino answers this question by bringing together the contributions of authors such as Ulrich Beck, Zygmunt Bauman, Anthony Giddens, Umberto Eco and other minor ones.

The evening

Alessia Rizzo and Domenico Frungillo will animate the discussion with the author, at the end of the evening there will be a final toast and thanks to the Equilibri Association for the cultural contribution that the event has brought to the territory.

An explosion of sounds, lights and contemporary tradition will enliven Piazza Addesa in Vallesaccarda on Saturday 21 June, on the occasion of the European Music Festival. Starting from 9.30pm, the small village in Irpinia will become the beating heart of a party without borders, thanks to the debut of Dance Tarantella, the show that reimagines the folklore of Southern Italy in a dance and electronic key.

Born from the desire to combine memory and innovation, Dance Tarantella transforms tradition into an immersive experience, where the ancestral rhythms of the tarantella intertwine with electronic beats and grand event scenography. An artistic project that breaks the mold and invites the public to rediscover the roots through a modern and engaging lens. Entrance is free, and the evening will be enriched by a complete offer to experience the party until late at night: live music, food area with local specialities, cocktail bar and an aftershow for dancing under the stars.

On 18 April 2025, the villages of Chianche, Petruro Irpino and Torrioni will be the protagonists of a touching and spiritually rich event: the "Via Crucis '25 - The Passion of the Living Christ". The initiative, promoted by the Pro Loco "Lapis" of Petruro Irpino, "Planca" of Chianche, and with the participation of the Generidea ODV association of Torrioni, the Youth Group of Petruro Irpino and the Youth Forum of Torrioni, will take place under the patronage of the three Municipalities involved.

The event will begin at 6.00 pm and will offer a unique experience of community reflection and participation. Participants will symbolically walk the 14 stations of the Passion of Christ in an evocative journey shared between the three countries. The route will be divided as follows from the first to the fourth station in Chianche; from the fifth to the eighth station in Petruro Irpino and from the ninth to the fourteenth station in Torrioni.

To facilitate participation, a free shuttle service will be active, which will connect the various locations of the event, guaranteeing a smooth and accessible experience for everyone.

The initiative is proposed not only as a religious celebration, but also as an opportunity to rediscover the cultural and spiritual roots of the area, enhancing the commitment of young people and local associations. A moment of intense collective participation, which unites faith, tradition and community in a single voice.

June 7 promises to be an unforgettable evening at the Casa del Vino in Castelfranci where music, culture and local flavors will merge in an event that celebrates the richness of traditions and artistic innovation. Special guest will be the Klezmer Modern Quartet, a group made up of four musicians from different musical worlds, united by the desire to reinterpret the ancient and fascinating klezmer style in a modern and sometimes jazz key.

The concert will begin at 9.30 pm at Vico Riviera sul Calore, in the heart of the village of Castelfranci, known for its wine-growing vocation and warm welcome. Afterwards, from 11.00pm, the evening will liven up further with the musical selection of Just Real Spanky Selecta, promising a final "with a bang" between engaging rhythms and party atmospheres.

But it won't just be the music that will win over the public. The event will also offer a rich food and wine experience: a wide assortment of wines, including well-known labels and new discoveries, will accompany a typically Irpinian menu. Participants will be able to delight in a selection of local cheeses and veal with tuna sauce in Irpinia sauce, prepared according to local tradition.

Organized by the Pro Loco Castelfranci, the event aims to enhance the artistic and gastronomic excellence of the area, offering an opportunity for meeting and conviviality in a unique context.

Sunday 25 May at 4.30pm Grottolella will be transformed into an enchanted stage thanks to the initiative "The Secrets of Nonno Gianni", an event promoted by the Municipal Administration on the occasion of the "May of Books". The event, awaited with enthusiasm by adults and children, promises an exciting journey through the fairy tales of Gianni Rodari, the undisputed master of children's fiction.

The Municipality of Grottolella, which has always supported reading as a tool for growth and sharing, has organized a special event this year, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the writer's death. Ilaria Scarano and Daniele Medugno will take the stage and give life to an evocative puppet theater show, accompanied by a puppet and a musician.

The initiative, aimed at all ages, blends narration, music and acting, paying homage to Rodari's stories with lightness and depth. The aim is not only to entertain, but also to stimulate reflection and love for books, precisely in the spirit of the national campaign "Il Maggio dei Libri". At the end of the show, the audience will be invited to a "literary aperitif".

Sunday 27 April, the Oasi Masseria Sant'Elia di Casalbore organizes the "Spariciata" an experiential day among the paths of the Samnite necropolis in search of wild asparagus.

Eight kilometers of circular walk among the ancient sheep tracks of Casalbore, the excursion is suitable for everyone, it will start at 10:00 from the Masseria, upon return the harvest will be the protagonist of lunch together with other typical local products.

A detox day for the body and mind thanks to the purity of the landscape of the place and a typical seasonal product to be appreciated sitting around a table in good company.

On May 9th Montefusco will be the protagonist of the day dedicated to "The Hidden Treasures of Campania", a cultural initiative aimed at enhancing the artistic and architectural heritage of the region. The students of the "De Luca" Art School in Avellino will guide visitors on this journey through time.

During the day, from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00, it will be possible to explore places of great historical value such as the Oratory of San Giacomo, the Church of San Francesco, the Civic Tower and the Bourbon Prison.

The event is part of a broader inter-institutional project promoted by the regional school management of Campania. The initiative aims to actively involve Campania's artistic institutes in a process of training and cultural awareness, with the aim of rediscovering and enhancing the cultural assets present in the provinces.

Thanks to the synergy between the school, local authorities and the Campania Region, the day represents not only an opportunity for the public to rediscover fascinating places, but also a training opportunity for young students, called to put artistic and communication skills into practice in the field.

On Friday 16 May at the Circolo Arci Fortapàsc in Atripalda, the "One For Peace" concert, the group will present its latest LP “We Sing for Love”.

One For Peace was born in 2016 from an idea of Samuel Di Mattia and Gerardo Cordasco, two musicians with different musical backgrounds, Samuel with a style based on hiphop and reggae and GC oriented towards the notes of house, hiphop, funk and rock grunch. From this mix of styles they created a crossover of multiple genres, defining their musical project as a non-genre.

"An intense, true, necessary concert.
Music that unites, words that light up,
notes that speak of love and resistance."

The appointment is set at 22:00 am, entrance reserved for Arci members.

The complex of Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi, the Goleto Abbey, aims to be a reference for walking routes and itineraries in the unexplored belly of Italy. On Friday 30 and Saturday 31 May the meeting and discussion with 50 scholars, writers, academics and enthusiasts, to then tackle the Walk on the Laceno-Goleto stage on Sunday 1 June.

The choice of the Goleto Abbey as the venue for the second National Forum was not accidental.
The site is welcoming and functional following the latest restoration campaign recently concluded. The beautiful ‘Sala dell’Arco’ with 99 seats, the abbey Info-point and the new Museum dedicated to San Guglielmo, founder of Montevergine and Goleto, will be open to the public for the occasion, with a multimedia focus dedicated to the Walk that bears his name.

The second Forum is part of the intangible actions financed by the PNRR - Attractiveness of the Villages - Cultural and Social Regeneration Projects of Small Historic Villages, thanks to the intuition had in 2022 by the mayors of the Municipalities of Chiusano di San Domenico, leader, and Ospedaletto D'Alpinolo.

After more than two years of intense work carried out by a group of professionals and enthusiasts, dreamers and spiritual guides, the Cammino di Guglielmo is today an established reality that has already demonstrated not only its validity, but also all its unexpressed potential with the construction of a relationship between the internal areas of Campania, Basilicata and Puglia. In these days the first independent walkers, arriving from different Italian regions, have completed the entire 320 km route, from the Abbey of Montevergine to the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre of Barletta. The Abbey of Goleto, in Alta Irpinia, is the arrival of the "Stage 5" that starts from the Grotta dell'Apparizione on Lake Laceno and crosses extraordinary mountain landscapes passing through the Pozzo di S. Guglielmo and Fontigliano di Nusco. This stage will be covered in its entirety on Sunday 1st June at the conclusion of the Forum.

The 'Stage 5' starts from the 'Grotta dell'Apparizione' on Lake Laceno (1,050 m. above sea level), in the Municipality of Bagnoli Irpino and, passing through the 'Pozzo di S. Guglielmo' (1,369 m. above sea level), at the foot of the 'Montagnone' of Nusco and the area of Fontigliano (Nusco), arrives at the Abbey of Goleto in the Municipality of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi (555 m. above sea level). The length is approximately 24 km.

For the occasion, the gate of the cave where Guglielmo, a hermit, lived around 1130 before undertaking the construction of the double monastery of Goleto, is reopened by the Municipal Administration of Bagnoli.

Over 50 walkers will offer pieces of knowledge and experiences to shape a mosaic of hidden wonders and travel new paths. After the official presentation in 2024 of the Cammino di Guglielmo during the first national Forum at the Palazzo Abbaziale del Loreto in Mercogliano, expert speakers of international importance return to discuss the theme of historical religious paths. Thanks to the hospitality of the Abbot of Montevergine Monsignor Riccardo Luca Guariglia and the Archdiocese of Altirpina, the restored rooms of the Abbey of Goleto in Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi will welcome over 50 people, including scholars, academics, enthusiasts and writers from all over Europe. The 2025 forum will see the participation of the referents of the 15 stages of the path, such as mayors, parish priests, delegates of associations, friends of the Path, and experts in the field. But it is mainly aimed at opening the debate between internationally renowned expert speakers in the sector, to investigate not only other important routes of already consolidated international paths, but also to replicate good practices and transfer methods and tools that have proven successful to the Italian context. For this reason, a focus will be dedicated in particular to the Camino de Santiago de Compostela.

The Abbeys of Montevergine and Goleto, the supporting Dioceses, the administrations of the Municipalities crossed by the route and the "Friends of the Walk" promote the development of the historical-religious itinerary in a perspective that combines spirituality, art, culture, beauty and valorization of territories; especially of the small towns in the inland areas that are inexorably experiencing the process of depopulation.

In this context, the complex of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi can aspire to become a national reference for historical-religious walks and inaugurate a map of spiritual and naturalistic itineraries ready to intersect projects and opportunities already prepared.

Relationship between Stage 5 with Saint William and his miracles

At the start of Stage 5, near the ancient ‘casone’ on Lake Laceno, going down a short slope, you reach the Grotto of St. William which tradition says was inhabited as a hermitage by William. Here, the Lord appeared to William and John of Matera: “Ne stes in loco isto, Johannes in orientem et Guillelmus in occidentem”; the two hermits had to separate: John had to go to the east and William to the west. Popular tradition has called it the grotto of Santa Nesta, for the words pronounced by Christ “ne stes”. William went down into the Ofanto valley where he founded the Goleto monastery while John went to the Gargano (to the east) where the abbey of Santa Maria di Pulsano still stands today.

Goleto, the arrival point of Stage 5, is the central place in the life of the Saint. Here he gave life to the ‘plan’ of the double monastery headed by an abbess and here he decided to die and be buried; it is therefore a place reported many times in the ‘Legend’; some miracles are also narrated there. To visit in the Abbey of Goleto: the Multimedia Museum dedicated to the life of William and the Way, where you can have a historical, chronological and geographical overview of the abbey and its surroundings; among the few surviving works of art is the recomposed Ciborium of St. William; not to be missed is the Church of St. Luke, the large open-air church called ‘Vaccaro, the Febronia Tower and the general layout with two cloisters and two monasteries.
