DISTRETTO 1

District 1 coincides with the six municipalities of the geographical area of Lower Irpinia. Also known as ”Mandamento Baianese", this vast area of Lower Irpinia is the set of small neighbouring villages, embraced by the Avella Mountains, forming a valley with a strategic position and a particular conformation. An itinerary that crosses the culture of the places, touching the history of Avella, with the Castle and the archaeological sites of the Necropolis and the Roman Amphitheatre, the naturalistic heritage of Quadrelle up to the paths of Partenio, with its food excellences, ranging from the traditional coricola with all its varieties, to the PDO salami of Mugnano del Cardinale, to the religious and folkloric rites of the Maio of S. Stefano di Baiano, the parade of the Battenti (Barefoot Confreres) of S. Elia di Sperone, and the Christmas tradition of Piccirillo in Sirignano.
