The Church of Santa Maria della Natività (Saint Mary of the Nativity) is a place of worship that stands in Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi, Aiello del Sabato.
The Church as seen today probably dates back to the 16th century, although the building was mentioned in a document dating from 1164, as an annex to the Monastery of Montevergine. The structure has been restored several times since 1750, after being damaged by earthquakes.
Inside the Church of Santa Maria della Natività you can admire the ceiling fresco by Alfonso Grassi from Solofra, depicting the “Nativity of the Virgin” and dating from 1962. There are also several paintings from the 18th century.
As one of the town’s main places of worship, the Church of Santa Maria della Natività is cherished by the locals also because of the wooden statue dedicated to Saint Sebastian, the town’s patron saint.
