The Church of Santa Maria e Sant'Alessio is a place of worship located in Campanarello, a hamlet in the Municipality of Venticano.
The religious building was erected between the end of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th century by local workers, in the place where the original Benedictine Monastery of Santa Maria once stood, built there by the Abbot Guglielmo IV. After the devastating earthquake of 23 November, 1980, the place of worship underwent major renovations and, in particular, work was carried out on the roof of the complex and on the façade, which was flanked by an imposing bell tower.
Nowadays, the Church's load-bearing stone masonry can be seen, plastered and painted in a light colour on the front façade. The interior has a rectangular plan and a single nave, with the apse opening at the end. The walls of the sacred space are also painted in a light colour. The sacred furnishings boast several statues recovered after the earthquake and the precious canvas dating back to the 17th century depicting the "Madonna with Child".
A religious symbol of the Venticano community, the Church of Santa Maria e Sant'Alessio inherits the great importance once held by the Benedictine Monastery.
