The Church of Santi Apostoli Filippo e Giacomo (Holy Apostles Philip and James) is a place of worship located in Baiano, on the street of the same name, in the historic centre of the town.
Probably built in the 17th century, it was recently restored to its original appearance. Built on a rectangular base, it is supported on the right by a bell tower on a square base. On the outside, the Campanian Baroque façade in soft yellow and white and a characteristic entrance door, covered in metal plates from 1794, are eye-catching; inside, there are marble and wooden sculptures, such as the 19th-century wooden statue of Saint Philomena and an isolated engraved marble plaque from 1912.
The single nave, with presbytery, has three side chapels on each side; above it is a wooden pulpit, with a Risen Christ in the centre, crowned by a whirlwind of announcing cherubs and the unbelieving apostles observing the event. The main altar has an altarpiece, the pictorial composition of which depicts the "Virgin with Baby Jesus between the Holy Apostles, Philip and James and the Purgatory Souls" a canvas painting dating between the 18th and 19th centuries.
A sacred symbol of the Vesuni district, the ancient centre of Baiano, the Church of the Santi Apostoli Filippo e Giacomo contributes to enriching the artistic heritage of the Irpinian town.
