The Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua is one of the most heartfelt celebrations in the community of Bisaccia, which celebrates its patron saint on 13 June every year, with rituals that begin the day before.
The Vespers of 12 June, in fact, is one of the most important and oldest traditions linked to the Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua and is characterised by three essential moments: the offering of candles, which will burn throughout the year, at the chapel of the Saint, as a sign of thanksgiving and protection by the municipal administration; the solemn liturgy of Vespers, usually presided over by the Archbishop; the blessing and distribution of bread.
On 13 June, after the celebration of Mass in the Church of Sant'Antonio da Padova (Saint Anthony of Padua), a procession takes place, testifying to the devotion of the inhabitants to their patron saint.
The religious celebrations are followed by civil festivities in the streets and squares adorned with spectacular illuminations. A music orchestra performs and concerts are held by various artists. On the final evening, there is a spectacular firework display that cannot be missed.
The Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua is, thus, a combination of tradition and spirituality that attracts all the members of a very devout community.
