The Church of San Michele Arcangelo (Saint Michael the Archangel) in Torrioni stands in the little square, also named after Saint Michael, overlooking Via Casale.
Built in the 18th century on the ruins of an earlier 15th-century building, of which only a crypt in the old oratory remains today, the Church is dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel. In July each year, the local townspeople celebrate the saint in a procession accompanied by illuminations, food and wine stalls, music and fireworks.
The recently-restored Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Torrioni has a plain façade made from local stone and a beautiful architraved portal surmounted by a majolica image of the patron saint and two splayed windows.
The sombre interior comprises a single nave with semicircular apse, where we find the high altar and a statue of the patron saint. The nave opens out into blind round arches containing alcoves with statues of saints.
The Church of San Michele Arcangelo is much-cherished by the local community. From the square in front of the building, visitors to Torrioni can enjoy the beautiful scenery, characteristic of the Greco di Tufo DOCG wine region.
