The Sanctuary of San Ciriaco (Saint Cyriacus) is a place of worship located in the historic centre of Torre Le Nocelle.
This 18th-century church reflects the strong following among the local community for their patron saint, whose relics are mainly found in Rome, beneath the main altar of the Basilica of Santa Maria, in Via Lata. However, some of the saint’s relics were moved to Torre Le Nocelle on 8 August 1635, where they were kept in a wooden case depicting Saint Cyriac Deacon and Martyr of the Church of Rome.
Located in the centre of the town, just off the main square, the Sanctuary of San Ciriaco was restored after the earthquake of 23 November 1980 and its beautiful 18th-century façade still remains today. A peculiarity of this building is its detachment from the bell tower; it probably post-dates the Sanctuary, which was built on several levels and has a bulb-shaped dome that dominates the town’s skyline.
A place of great devotion, the Sanctuary of San Ciriaco is the religious landmark of the local community.
