The Chestnut Festival is a food and wine event that takes place in Cassano Irpino every year during the autumn.
According to some sources, this event, in its 43rd edition in 2019, is one of the oldest in Italy dedicated to the precious fruit, which is very common in much of Irpinia. At the heart of the event, in addition to the chestnut, it is possible to taste both dishes prepared with this product (chestnut soup, sweets, roasted chestnuts, etc.) and traditional local dishes (maccaronara, ravioli, caciocavallo impiccato, black truffles from Irpinia, etc.).
Each year, the Chestnut Festival is accompanied by a theme that provides food for thought and discussion: for the 2019 edition, the theme was environmental sustainability, with the launch of hot air balloons over the beautiful medieval village, moments of debate and the opportunity to visit the famous Cassano Springs. A great deal of attention, especially in that edition, was also given to the children of the Cassano community, who were involved in a video competition in which they were asked to describe a project on nature conservation.
A food and wine event of great value, the Cassano Irpino Chestnut Festival is an occasion where the tasting of typical products is linked to a significance of very high value, aimed at addressing issues that are still relevant today.
