The Gerardino Museum, located in the complex of the Sanctuary of San Gerardo Maiella, in Caposele, is dedicated to the life and works of the patron saint of mothers and children.
This small museum, recently renovated, displays a precious collection of paintings, statues and representations that describe the fundamental moments of Saint Gerard's life and the birth of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, which welcomed him as a coadjutor brother. There is also a reconstruction of the small cell where the Saint lived, with a large crucifix attached to the wall, a desk, a small bed and a few other objects. The 1980 earthquake destroyed the room where Saint Gerard died, which is the true heart of the Gerardino Museum and, for this reason, the Museum has been temporarily set up in the premises of the new Sanctuary.
As the custodian of the religious experience and miracles attributed to the Saint, the Gerardino Museum is further evidence of the strong influence of the figure of Saint Gerard on the community of the Sele Valley.
