The "Tre Fontane" (Three Fountains) Roadhouse is an architectural complex located in Greci, in the town of the same name.
It is a resting and refreshment place located on the Camporeale-Foggia Tratturello. The latter is nothing more than a branch of the Regio Tratturo (old transhumance route) Pescasseroli-Candela, linked to the millenarian pastoral tradition of transhumance, an important source of economic and social development for many towns in Irpinia. The transfer of herds and flocks to the mountains in the summer and to the valley in the winter took place along these roads, interspersed with roadhouses where shepherds used to stop to recover their energy for the rest of the journey.
Dating from the Renaissance period, the "Tre Fontane" Roadhouse consists of three detached buildings: a circular courtyard, a rectangular tavern and a farmhouse. Each of these buildings was equipped with a spring, a feature that, in fact, influenced the naming of the place of interest.
Today, all that remains of the architectural complex is tangible evidence of the long journeys made by shepherds over centuries of history.
