The Church of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli (Our Lady of Constantinople) of Pago del Vallo di Lauro is situated in Via Narni, in the old centre of this Irpinian town.

The Church was built in the 17th century, although after the 1732 earthquake it was completely rebuilt in a late Baroque style that is very different from the original. Today, the Church is noted for its interior, particularly the vault, decorated with frescoes by the 18th-century artist Angelo Mozzillo from Afragola. The most notable of the frescoes is the central depiction of the “Virgin Mary of Constantinople” whose worship was introduced by travellers and sailors in various parts of southern Italy.

A treasure of Baroque art set in the old centre of Pago, the Church of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli is an important feature of the local community’s artistic and religious heritage.
