The Church of Santa Maria della Pietà (Saint Mary of Mercy) of Lauro is a place of worship located on the street of the same name.

Some documents prove the existence of this religious building as early as the 12th century but, damaged by fires and earthquakes, it has been rebuilt and restored several times over time. In addition, excavations carried out in the 1980s uncovered finds, such as marble fragments from the Roman era, which could suggest a pre-existing pagan temple on the site where the Church stands today.

Inside, there is an interesting cycle of frescoes, commissioned by the Del Cappellano family in the 15th century, depicting episodes from the life of Christ, the most unusual of which is the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan, immersed in the waters completely naked. In addition, on the main altar, decorated with various draperies and angels, there is a painting by Mozzillo, dated 1800, depicting the Pieta group, hence the name of the Church itself.

One of the most important religious buildings in the town, the Church of Santa Maria della Pietà is a symbol of faith and devotion present in the community of Lauro.
