The Triton Fountain is a monument situated close to the municipal hall in Piazza Demanio, Ospedaletto d’Alpinolo.
The water in the fountain comes from a local spring. Little is known about the fountain's origins, but what is certain is that it was built in the early 20th century from bare stone sculpted by local masons. The beauty of its classical lines is enhanced by the reference to a mythological figure. The statue, positioned centrally, is of the half-man half-fish Triton, son of Poseidon and daughter of Amphitrite. He is clasping a shell horn in his hands; according to Greek mythology, the sound of the horn would calm stormy waters.
The statue is much cherished by the local community and denotes the bond that still exists between this town and its water sources, set against the splendid backdrop of the Partenio natural park.
