The Monastery of the Clarisse di Santa Maria della Sanità (Poor Clares of Saint Mary of Health) is located on Via Francesco Moscati in Santa Lucia di Serino.
Situated between the Church of Santi Pietro e Paolo (Saints Peter and Paul) and the San Giuseppe Moscati House Museum, the monastic complex was built between the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century, commissioned by Friar Giulio Chiarella, Chaplain of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and relative of the family of Saint Giuseppe Moscati (1880-1927).
The structure of the monastery forms almost a single whole with the homonymous church, built in the 17th century in late Baroque style and embellished over the following century with mosaics, majolica floors, paintings, and statues. Inside the building, you can admire splendid frescoes and some wooden statues, works that the restoration efforts have revealed to be by artists such as Michele Ricciardi (1672-1753), Giacomo Colombo (1663-1731), and Nicola Fumo (1647-1725).
A magnificent example of the artistic and cultural heritage of the Santa Lucia area, the Monastery of the Clarisse di Santa Maria della Sanità contributes to enhancing the value of the historic centre of the Irpinian town.
