The Church of the Santissimi Apostoli Pietro e Paolo (Most Holy Apostles Peter and Paul) is situated close to the Monastery of Santa Maria della Sanità (Saint Mary of Health) in Santa Lucia di Serino.
The Mother Church of the town, its construction dates back to 1518. It was originally dedicated to Saint Lucy but the current name dates from 1839. A new building, restored in 1926, was erected on the previous structure which collapsed following an earthquake in 1631. Alongside the Church of the Santissimi Apostoli Pietro e Paolo stands the new Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, which was built after the earthquake on 23 November 1980.
Noteworthy features of the Church include the decorated portal, a tall three-level bell tower containing paintings by Mari and Ricciardi, the 18th-century papier-mâché statues depicting Saint Lucy and Madonna del Rosario, and a Pieta by Solimena.
A landmark for the local community, the Church of the Santissimi Apostoli Pietro e Paolo testifies to the story of salvation and faith which is still evident in the style of this building, and in the finely-crafted artworks inside it.
