The Baronial Palace of Altavilla Irpina is located in the historic centre of the town.
Also known as "Comitale Palace" or "De Capua Palace", from the name of its former owners, it is considered one of the most important examples of the so-called "Campanian Renaissance". Its construction dates back to the second half of the 16th century and was initiated by the feudal lord Andrea De Capua, on the occasion of his marriage to Costanza di Chiaromonte, former queen and repudiated wife of King Ladislao D'Angiò Durazzo.
Over the years, the Baronial Palace has retained the appearance of a superb manor house, adorned with fine carvings: its square shape, the large entrance portal, the courtyard and, last but not least, the double staircase leading to the main floor, are details that highlight the Renaissance style of the entire structure, allowing the Baronial Palace to express itself in all its splendour.
Today, this Palace in Altavilla Irpina is the venue for exhibitions, conferences and historical and commemorative events, allowing visitors to admire not only the works of art housed inside but also the suggestive panoramic views of the town and surrounding countryside.
