The Porta della Terra is the archway leading to the rear of the Della Leonessa Castle and the centre of Montemiletto.
Named “terra” or “land” as it leads to the village and its fort, the arch originally stood about 20 m further forward than where it is now. It was only in 1637, when Montemiletto's feudal lord Carlo Tocco wanted to expand his property, that the Porta della Terra was rebuilt in the exact spot in which it now stands. The arched monument bears the coat of arms of the aristocratic Tocco family, as well as an inscription, indicating that it was gifted to the worthy people of the town by Carlo Tocco himself.
A genuine work of art, the Porta della Terra still bears traces of history which are extremely important to the local community.
