Ariano Irpino: at the theater with "'A Figliata"

Third show of Ariano Irpino's "La Fermata" Theater Company with "'A Figliata". Raffaele Viviani arrives in the city of Tricolle thanks to the performance of "I Pappici": on stage a rich, choral show, a comedy which, with the irony and lightness of the dialect, explores the eternal duplicity of the human soul. A vernacular comedy that is fun and powerful at the same time, by a fundamental author who made a real revolution in the history of Italian theatre. Don Gennaro is about to become a father. During the night of labor, he begins to spread the rumor that in reality the unborn child is the son of a previous boyfriend of the woman giving birth, who shows up at the house welcomed with all the honors by the unaware Don Gennaro. Here then are the dirty looks from the doorman, the broad and generous gestures of the fake father, the embarrassment of the real parent who finds himself acting as godfather. After a week, during the celebrations for the baptism of the baby, the neighborhood rumors reach the man who will have to, despite himself, accept that reality which, although perhaps already aware of it, he had not wanted to see. With the magic of his characters, drawn with the skill of someone who deeply knows the duplicity of the Neapolitan soul, "'A Figliata" is a surprising work. The neighborhood voices that incessantly create and undo people's lives demonstrate to us, if proof were still needed, how much Viviani was ahead of his time.
