The Savignano Carnival is a folkloric event that takes place in Savignano Irpino, during the celebrations for Shrove Tuesday.
The most joyful feast of the year originates from the collaboration of local associations and the municipal administration and is a cultural phenomenon that recalls the roots of the community. In Savignano Irpino, in one of "Italy's Most Beautiful Villages", art and tradition are expressed with the parade of allegorical floats and an award ceremony for the most beautiful masks. The event is designed, above all, to enhance folklore, involving participants in popular songs and dances, while also paying attention to local food and wine and promoting typical products of excellence.
Cheerful and multicoloured, the allegorical floats that parade through the centre of the town during the weekend before Shrove Tuesday are the result of a long creative process that makes the Savignano Irpino Carnival famous throughout the Cervaro Valley. Sheets of newspaper prepared using the moulding technique, make it possible to create real travelling stages of the most varied shapes, enriched by scenic effects that fascinate adults and children alike. From cartoons to political leaders, the characters on the floats surprise and entertain, accompanied by music, dancing and lots of confetti thrown to colour and give rhythm to the festive atmosphere.
An event that promotes the art of papier-mâché and a love of tradition, the Savignano Carnival invites all those who take part in it to rejoice and have a good time.
