The archaeological area of Carife is located in the Addolorata district.

There are a lot of very ancient burials in this archaeological area. In Addolorata, where the funerary area is located, 22 burials have been found that can be dated to a period between the middle of the 6th century and the beginning of the 3rd century BC In particular, in the tombs of the 6th and 5th centuries BC, five vases were almost always found, reduced to two in those of the late 5th and 4th centuries BC, including black paint cups or bronze vessels, placed at the feet of the deceased. In addition, some identifying symbols, such as the evidence of the cremation ritual or the curved metal tool used to clean the body after bathing, testify to the high social status of the deceased.

The Archaeological Area contains an important heritage, useful for understanding and reconstructing the history of a town. Some scholars believe that the copious amount of Samnite and Roman evidence found is such as to suggest that Carife could have been the Hirpinian town of the Samnite League mentioned by Livy in his work on the history of Rome.

One of the most important in Irpinia, the Archaeological Area of Carife significantly enriches the cultural offer of the whole province, enhancing it with guided tours that interest and fascinate visitors.
