The Church of San Rocco (Saint Roch) dominates the avenue named after it, where a large terrace overlooks the beautiful landscape of Flumeri.
Dating from the 17th century, it was entirely rebuilt in the early 20th century and is dedicated to the town’s patron saint.
There are three entrance portals on the façade. The central one, in a contrasting colour, is the largest. It is flanked by two smaller side doors. To the left of the Church is a bell tower with small bell chambers and clocks on the sides.
The interior of the Church has a single nave at the end of which is the main altar, well-maintained and with airy, luminous decoration. Magnificent chandeliers hang from the beautiful ceiling, while two large frescoes adorn the side walls.
The Church of San Rocco houses the relics of the town’s patron saint, to whom the entire community is very devoted. Each year, the traditional “Alzata del Giglio di Grano” (Raising of the Wheat Lily) ceremony is celebrated in his honour, testifying to the local people’s faith, recognition and devotion to their patron saint and protector.
