The Church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo (Saint Andrew the Apostle) in Solofra is located in the hamlet of the same name, in Via Casate.
Due to its elevated position, the Church slightly dominates the surrounding square and the surrounding residential area. Rebuilt in 1539 in its present form and restored in 1633, the original layout was subsequently modernised in 1875. Severely damaged by the 1980 earthquake, it was consolidated and restored under the direction of the Salerno and Avellino Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendency.
The Church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo in Solofra, with its bell tower, retains its purely Baroque style and a single-nave structure, inside which four marble altars stand out, two on each side, leaning against the walls and with their respective oil paintings: on the right are the altars of the Pentecost and Our Lady of the Rosary; on the left are those dedicated to the Madonnas of the Arch and the Crowned Virgin.
The vault is decorated with stuccoes and enriched by three canvases dating from 1654, painted by the artist Angelo Solimena from Serino (1629-1716): "The Vocation of Peter and Andrew", "The Multiplication of the Loaves" and "The Apparition of Jesus to the Apostles after the Resurrection". Other works in the church building are attributed to the famous local artist Francesco Guarini (1611-1651): "The Martyrdom of Saint Andrew", located on the main altar and dated 1642; "Joseph sold by his brothers", "Crowned Madonna with Saints Gennaro and Joseph", and "The Sacrifice of Isaac", located in the nave.
A place of worship rich in works of art, the Church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo contributes to enhancing the historical and cultural value of the local community of the same name.
