Lioni hosts “Scandalosamente Bello”: Emergency hospital exhibition in Uganda

From Sunday 29 September until 6 October, it will be possible to see the photographic exhibition “Scandalosamente bello”, at the council chamber of the Municipality of Lioni.

“Scandalosamente bello”, hence the title of the exhibition, is how Gino Strada wanted the EMERGENCY Pediatric Surgery Center in Uganda to be, requested from the archistar Renzo Piano. And this is how it presents itself: a beautiful hospital immersed in nature on the shore of Lake Victoria, at 1,200 meters above sea level, built with sustainable materials and techniques.

The photographic exhibition by Marcello Bonfanti, curated by Paola Fortuna, tells the story of the hospital, the conception, construction and activities of the hospital of and as he had requested it from Renzo Piano designed by the architect Renzo Piano. Images and archive material retrace the testimonies of those who worked on the birth of the surgical center and make known the stories of those who work every day in the association's hospital, from the medical staff to the small patients treated.

The exhibition presents the hospital, its places and the people it interacts with, through images and texts. The journey through the photographs of Marcello Bonfanti and Emmanuel Museruka, the materials taken from the archives of EMERGENCY and TAMAssociati, the texts of Gino Strada and Renzo Piano and the testimonies of those who worked on the project before, during and after the birth of the center - makes known the stories of the doctors and nurses who work in the hospital, and of the first patients treated.

It will also be possible to virtually enter the hospital thanks to the presence of the 360° visor to immerse yourself in all the phases of conception and construction of the project.
