The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena (Saint Mary Magdalene) is a place of worship in Lauro, in Via Principe Lancellotti, near the Castle.
Originally erected in a lower part of the town, the Collegiate Church was subject to frequent flooding, so during the 16th century, it was rebuilt on a higher site, along the walls of Lancellotti Castle. Set on fire by French Republican troops in 1799, like many other buildings, it was restored during the 19th century.
The Collegiate Church is accessed by a spacious staircase, lined on the entrance side by two fluted columns from the Imperial Roman period and on the front retaining wall. Inside, there is a single nave and a large ceiling painting, dated 1817, depicting the Gospel episode of Mary Magdalene washing Jesus' feet.
In recent years, the Collegiate Church has lost its religious functions and is now used as an auditorium, conference hall and for art installations.
