Pisapia Palace and Mattioli Palace are located in Gesualdo, in Via Scaletta, near the Castle and the Church of San Nicola.
The two stately buildings are part of a complex of constructions built mostly during the 17th century, based on structures that already existed previously, dating back to the Middle Ages. Completely restored after the earthquake of 23 November 1980, Pisapia Palace and Mattioli Palace now form a single architectural complex, owned by the municipality, which also hosts exhibitions.
We know that Mattioli Palace once consisted of small dwellings, which were later joined together, and some objects or structures such as fireplaces or furnaces from the 20th century have survived. Pisapia Palace, on the other hand, is known to have been built in the 17th century as the home of the family from which it takes its name, and restoration work in 2009 brought to light some paintings on the walls. Among the latter, there are some with subjects related to 18th-century navigation.
An important example of the Gesualdo aristocratic society, the Pisapia Palace and Mattioli Palace live on today in all their splendour.
