The Feast of Lo Ucciolo is a food and wine event that takes place in Castelvetere sul Calore in July.
The event was launched a few years ago to commemorate an ancient local tradition: the "ucciolo", in fact, is a kind of "saltimbocca", a mixture of water, flour and yeast, which was used in the past by housewives and bakers to test the right oven temperature before baking bread.
During this feast, Piazza Monumento, the square where it takes place, is filled with mobile ovens, the smell of bread and cured meats used to stuff the "ucciolo", music and dancing. All this is accompanied by excellent local wine, in an atmosphere that evokes, a little like the Maccaronara Festival does, the atmosphere of ancient festivals.
An authentic culinary trip back to the peasant past, the Feast of Lo Ucciolo contributes to enriching the cultural variety of a town characterised by unique traditions, and customs.
