The Madonna Stella del Mattino (Our Lady of the Morning Star) takes place in Andretta every year, always on the last Saturday and the last Sunday of May, and is due to a very ancient cult, which the people of Andretta share with the people of Vallata.
The celebration known as the feast of the "Mattinella" is held in Vallata on the same days as the traditional feast of Our Lady of the Morning Star in Andretta. On the feast day, after the arrival of the pilgrims from Vallata, a procession starts, in which the statue of the Madonna is carried on a decorated cart through the streets of Andretta and makes three laps around the Sanctuary of the Stella Mattutina (Morning Star).
The origins of the feast in honour of the Virgin of the Morning Star are entrusted to a legend, according to which the statue of the Virgin was originally in Vallata, but, disputed, was moved several times from one town to another, only to remain permanently in Andretta, in the hamlet of "Mattinella" where a Sanctuary was built in her honour.
The Our Lady of the Morning Star is a much-loved feast in the local community and a unique occasion for neighbouring villages to get together and share their experiences.
