The Church of San Sebastiano (Saint Sebastian) in Salza Irpina is a place of worship on Via San Francesco.
Recently restored, the building dates back to the 15th-16th century and still retains the doorway from 1547, embellished with interesting ornamental decorations. In the past, numerous works of art were housed in this church, but today very few remain, such as the silver "Saint Sebastian's cross", which dates back to the 16th century and is one of the more famous works here. This is in part because its considerable weight gave rise to a famous saying among the inhabitants of the town: "May you weigh as much as Saint Sebastian's cross". The Church also contains a triptych from 1475 attributed to Francesco da Tolentino, some 18th-century sculptures, and 18th-century frescoes, while the precious silver crucifix is now kept in the Duomo of Avellino.
A place of worship very dear to the Salza Irpina community, the Church of San Sebastiano helps demonstrate the value of the artistic heritage of the Irpinian village.
