The Church of San Vitaliano Vescovo (Saint Vitalian the Bishop) is a place of worship located in the historic centre of Parolise, a town in Irpinia.
Known as the "Mother Church", its origins are somewhat uncertain. The first documentary evidence of its existence only dates back to 1857, when its structure underwent restoration, along with its bell tower. Today, the building is still a significant element of the characteristic medieval appearance of the town of Parolise, which consists of single main road intersected by small, narrow streets that still preserve the defensive system of the past.
The Church of San Vitaliano Vescovo has a very simple façade, with the original doorway made of local stone. The religious building has a nave and two aisles: the nave leads to the presbytery, where the Crucifix of Preziosissimo Sangue (Precious Blood) is located, while the two aisles each have three ribbed vaults supported on cruciform pillars, once made of stone and which, in turn, house niches containing statues of saints.
A place rich in history, faith, and works of art, the Church of San Vitaliano Vescovo is the main religious and cultural symbol of the Parolise community.
