The Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie (Holy Mary of the Graces) in Gesualdo, with the adjoining Convent, is located in Via Cappuccini.
These two buildings were erected by the will of Prince Carlo Gesualdo in 1592, as stated on the stone plaque on the façade of the Convent. The Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie has a single nave and a very simple façade. The coat of arms of Prince Carlo Gesualdo can be seen above the entrance arch, and inside the church is a painting entitled "The Forgiveness of Carlo Gesualdo" by Giovanni Balducci (1560-1631), probably a votive painting depicting the request for forgiveness for all sinful humanity.
The Capuchin Convent, which was enlarged by Nicolò Ludovisi in 1629, was damaged in the earthquake of 23 November 1980. Recently renovated, it now has a cloister and garden, a place of peace. Saint Pio of Pietrelcina stayed in this convent of Gesualdo from November to December 1909, which is why a special museum has been set up inside, where it is also possible to visit the Saint's cell.
Guardian of centuries of faith and devotion, the convent complex contributes to enriching the artistic-religious heritage of the Gesualdo community.
