The Day of the Sick is an event that takes place in Materdomini, a hamlet of Caposele, on 25 April every year.
On this occasion, which is very dear to the local community, a large number of devotees gather near the Sanctuary of San Gerardo to venerate and ask for grace from Saint Gerard Majella. The celebrations take place from the early hours of the morning, with a reception service dedicated to the sick and the volunteers from the associations that accompany them. This is followed by an open-air Eucharistic concelebration and, in the afternoon, adoration and the final blessing of the sick. Each key stage of the Day of the Sick is accompanied by a moment of communion and sharing, which further strengthens the sense of devotion to a religious figure beloved throughout Irpinia.
A local tradition at the end of April, the Day of the Sick involves many people who never lose their courage, their smile and their hope for better times.
