The Great Water Show in the naturalistic oasis of Lake Saint Peter, is the event that attracts thousands of people to Monteverde, not only from Irpinia but from all over Southern Italy.
Art (of acting, storytelling, music, etc.) and ingenuity are exhibited in this event on floating platforms that enhance an important naturalistic setting, that of the Mezzana Forest, highlighting the different and fascinating aspects of the territory, of Irpinian culture and one of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages, offering an enchanting and thrilling show.
Every single element, from the body of water as a stage, the floating jets of water, plays of lights to the fireworks, becomes a bewitching choreographic element, which is extraordinarily intertwined with the plot of the representation: the story of Saint Gerard Majella, the saint of the people and of the less fortunate. Theatrical actors and a virtuous corps de ballet, in fact, stage the salient moments of the life of the Saint, who lived his life between Puglia, Basilicata and Campania. The narrating voices punctuate, with the dialogues, the rhythms of the narration and, above all, offer a reflection that goes beyond the magic of the show to the entranced spectators.
Even though The Great Water Show has been suspended for some years, we hope it can return to enchant the spectators, because it's a unique show, the flagship of the village and of the entire Irpinia. It has been and may continue to be an important tourist attraction.
