The Chapel of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli (Saint Mary of Constantinople) of Grottolella is situated in Via Francesco De Stefano, Grottolella.
It stands next to one of the town’s most prestigious buildings: Maglio Palace. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, all that is still visible of the original architectural structure is the apse, which opens out onto the single central nave and the sacristy.
The blocks used to build the Church were taken from the old crypt, while the axis of the Chapel was built from paving stones of Irpinian clastic rock. Externally, the pilasters add a simple linear decoration to the yellow-plastered façade, which has visibly deteriorated. A votive shrine surmounts the central wooden portal, with a flight of steps leading up to it.
A small and charming place of worship, the Chapel is another piece of the artistic and religious heritage belonging to the community of Grottolella.
