The Corn Cob Festival is an event that takes place annually between the end of July and the beginning of August in the hamlet of Calore, in the Municipality of Mirabella Eclano.
Known as the oldest food and wine event in the Calore Valley, the Corn Cob Festival is organised by the Pro Loco La Pannocchia (The Corn Cob) and, in the past, has received the patronage of institutions, bodies and associations of a certain importance, such as the Municipality of Mirabella Eclano, the Province of Avellino, the Campania Region and the UNPLI (National Union of Italian Municipal Tourist Boards). In 2019, the 43rd edition of the festival was held, the last in chronological order.
The food and wine event offers participants the chance to taste various dishes and typical products, among the most authentic and genuine, often associated with excellent local wines such as Taurasi DOCG, Fiano di Avellino DOCG and Greco di Tufo DOCG. First courses include cicatielli col pulieio, handmade cavatelli pasta served with tomato puree and puleggio (a herb belonging to the mint family), and fusilli, orecchiette and laine, usually served with meat, vegetable or legume sauce. Second courses include the inevitable meat with peppers, a traditional dish that is a feature of many food and wine events in Irpinia.
All this is accompanied by music and popular shows during the Corn Cob Festival, which enliven the hamlet of Calore in a splendid folkloric setting that is renewed every year in summer.
