The Church of Carmine di Lapio is located in Via San Martino, on the outskirts of the village.
The religious building has two typical elements: the Holy Sepulchre and the Moorish cupola of the bell tower that stands next to it. The entire architectural complex is on two levels: the ground floor and the hypogeum. The latter is accessed by a stone staircase at the back of the Church, near the apse, and this underground chamber also confirms that the present place of worship was once used as a burial place.
The Church of the Carmine is the only place of worship in the town that does not stand on a stylobate but is only a few centimetres above the surrounding ground. This last characteristic, probably due to the ancient function of the cemetery in the area where the Church stands, gives visitors to the sacred place a sense of welcome.
Thanks to its location at the entrance to Lapio, the visitor is projected into an itinerary of rediscovery of the precious artistic-religious heritage of the Irpinian town.
