Pane, Ammore e Tarantella (Bread, Love and Tarantella) is a folkloric food and wine event held in Avella in September.
An event eagerly awaited by the local community, it was launched in 2011 to promote Avella's traditions and emphasise its strong ties with the area, as confirmed by the choice of name given to the event itself, which is full of symbolism: bread, to express union and culinary tradition; love, passionate and visceral, for one's own land; the tarantella, to mark the rhythm of popular music and the enthusiasm with which to involve those taking part. Over time, the event has proved to be an important occasion for the cultural promotion of the territory, guardian of important archaeological and naturalistic areas.
Throughout the event, the programme includes shows, parades, concerts and performances by various street artists. During the event, the doors of the historic buildings are opened to access the courtyards, the main street of the town is decorated with typical elements of local folklore and the squares are transformed to host stands and stages. Food and wine stands are set up, offering a wide choice of traditional dishes, with the tasting and sale of excellent local products, first and foremost the Avellana hazelnut. There are also numerous corners dedicated to art and crafts. All this is accompanied by tours of the town's most important monumental sites: the Castle, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Roman Tombs.
The event is promoted by a staff of young people from Avella who, throughout the year, are involved in the preparation of the event, taking care of every aspect. With each edition, the number of participants, artists and visitors has increased, marking the great success of the event.
