La Notte re la Focalenza (The Night of the Fire) is an eagerly awaited event that revives an ancient tradition of Castelfranci: as in the past, on the day of the Immaculate Conception, the squares and alleys of the village are filled with small bonfires.
Fire, which has always been an element of unity and aggregation, warms the brisk air and brings the inhabitants of Castelfranci together to exchange "doe cunti" (stories) and to share two evenings of music, culture and food and wine. The festive community also welcomes the many visitors, whose presence has grown considerably over the years, accompanying them on an intriguing journey that leads to discover the beauty and traditions of the area and to experience them to the full. There are fresh pasta workshops, visits to the neighbourhoods and tours of the excellent local wineries.
There are two main actors in the festive scenario of the Notte re la Focalenzia: the Maccaronara and the Aglianico wine. Strictly handmade pasta strips are the typical first course of Castelfranci; dressed with a simple sauce or ragu, their combination with the prestigious wine from the hills of Castelfranci creates the most appetising of combinations, which brings sensory perception back to the classic and authentic taste of the local gastronomic tradition.
Entertainment shows of various kinds, travelling music in the squares and streets of the village, street artists and concerts enliven the evenings of the Immaculate Conception bonfires, which contribute, with their increasingly participatory nature, to enhancing the territory, products, tradition and local culture.
